Benthic macroinvertebrates (represented mainly by insects) are small organisms that live attached to rocks in rivers and streams. These organisms are used in the assessment of biodiversity impacts as bioindicators in aquatic environments, as they present evolutionary adaptations and tolerance limits to certain environmental conditions. We can collect them with a surber type net and with the aid of tweezers and soft bristle brush. The main objective of this project is to identify the diversity of aquatic macroinvertebrates in rapids in the Teles Pires River basin in the area of influence of the Sinop Hydroelectric Power Plant and in the long run to produce an inventory of rapids macroinvertebrates in the Teles Pires River Basin and to compare the abundance, density and composition data of macroinvertebrates with micro-habitats, as well as their relationship with the physicochemical factors of the water (eg water speed, depth, temperature). The collected macroinvertebrates will form a reference collection of macroinvertebrates from the northern region of Mato Grosso on the Teles Pires River. 8,900 specimens have already been collected, divided into 3 phyla, 7 classes, 10 orders and 18 families, this being the first survey of rapids macroinvertebrates on the Teles Pires River.
